Mike Blake checks out Henke’s new Severe Duty Dozer Blade (r)

“Creative design, good workmanship, and well engineered.”

These are the forms of praise that Henke likes to inspire when introducing new products to the marketplace. Henke’s new product ideas typically get started in response to some customer need, targeted to solve a unique problem or fit a specific niche. Henke’s new Severe Duty Dozer Blade (SDDB) is a product that merits just such praise. It has people talking.

Across the country you’ll hear differing opinions on which brand and type of attachment deliver the most proverbial bang for the buck. But now just about everyone can agree that Henke’s new SDDB is a terrific year round product to help you get the most from of your equipment.

New Severe Duty Dozer Blade Is Ready For Action

Engineered for mounting on either a loader or motor grader, the SDDB incorporates the structural strength needed for summer dozing with the curvature (a 23 1 D2” continuous radius) required for severe snow plowing.

Weighing in at 3,750 pounds, the new unit features a multiple box reinforced 1 D4” moldboard with a horizontal full length 12” 35lb/ft S&C channel center support and (5) verticle 1 D2” ribs. The hydraulically power angling is generated with two 4” x 20 3 D4” x 2” double acting cylinders providing infinite adjustment from 0-35 degrees from left to right.

Specifically designed to accommodate a wide variety of couplers, the SDDB is the perfect tool for government agencies and contractors who fight with packed snow all winter and move dirt all summer.       TOP

iPlow

Henke continually strives to make the best snowplow in the industry. Recently, we have come out with our new “i-Plow” (stands for “Innovative”), which incorporates some of the best ideas in the snowplow industry into one plow.

Here are some of the features of this new plow:
1. External Compression Spring Trips are pre-set at the factory with optimum spring tension.
2. Unique spring design allows for maximum spring travel.
3. Rubber stop blocks are mounted on the pushframe, and designed to compress against impact plates (located on the bottom angle) to minimize shock loads.
4. Low-profile mounting ears are designed to give the operator three different attack angles.
5- Extreme-Duty trip spring attaching structures are the strongest in the industry.
6. A-Frame hold down plate is cut to the pushframe radius - Prevents ANY possibility of pinching hydraulic hoses.
7. Chain lift points on pushframe are designed to provide continuous level lift.

These features, in combination with other standard Henke features such as:
• 3/16" thick moldboard (40% thicker and 95% stronger than 10 gauge!)
• Integral Shield (prevents snow from blowing over moldboard)
• Two 3" bore x 10" stroke x 2" rod, double-acting reversing cylinders (provide dual “push-pull” hydraulic reverse) ensure that Henke’s plow is fully loaded with the best features available in the snowplow industry!

See You at the Summit!

Every spring the Colorado D.O.T. fights the battle of clearing mountains of snow that barricade the road to the 14,264 ft. peak of Mount Evans. Plowing this road is an intense operation involving the use of dozers, loaders, graders and trucks to clear an entire winter's accumulation of heavy Colorado snow.

Earlier this year a Henke snow package was installed on Komatsu's new motor grader, the Laterra GD655, for some extreme condition snow trials. We couldn't think of a more perfect location for such a test than Mount Evans.

Power Motive Corporation, Komatsu's Colorado dealer, agreed to help with the coordination of bringing all the right people and equipment together for the event.

A Vee Plow, Lift Group and Wing Plow were installed on the Laterra at Henke's Leavenworth, KS factory. Shortly thereafter, Komatsu engineers arrived at Henke to install strain gauges to measure frame stress while plowing. The equipment was then staged in Denver at Power Motive's location where chains and in-line hydraulic pressure gauges were installed.

On May 2nd the test was underway with equipment plowing through incredibly high drifts and heavy snowpack while strain gauges recorded grader frame load data for later analysis.

According to Henke's Bob Lacy, "Both the Henke and Komatsu equipment withstood some very extreme testing. It was really an unbelievable show."

Everyone was quite pleased by the results and hopes to
"SEE YOU AT THE SUMMIT!"

Henke's Montana Asphalt Topper Passes the Test in New Mexico

When budgets got "squeezed", the New Mexico D.O.T. began searching for cost saving possibilities. Seen as a fast, effective method for asphalt overlay, Henke's Montana Asphalt Topper (MAT) provided a great solution and tremendous cost savings over typical laydown machines. This non-traditional asphalt overlay machine employs a wheel loader to push the MAT, which extrudes a ribbon of hot asphalt on roads with paving ruts and rough spots.

In mid-July, just outside Tucumcari, NM, the MAT unit was put to the test of a secondary asphalt road in need of repair. After the crew became familiar with this new machine, asphalt was pouring rapidly. Combining downpressure from the loader, weight of the asphalt material, and the strike angle of the MAT's blade, a 2" overlay was extruded into place. By afternoon a couple of miles of smooth overlay had been completed and the results were outstanding.

Other districts are now utilizing the MAT and it looks like this will be a terrific addition to the fleet and a solution to the expenses of high cost asphalt laydown machines.

LOADER BACKHOES - The New Snow Fighting Machine

Several years ago customers began requesting that Henke provide snowplows for Loader Backhoe machines. Many of these individuals had been utilizing their buckets to handle snow removal jobs. However, they reported that buckets don't angle to windrow snow, buckets can't push that much volume, buckets don't have a safety spring trip, etc. Essentially, what we learned was, buckets are simply not designed for plowing snow.

Another important development was the introduction of quick couplers on Loader Backhoe machines. This allowed operators to quickly disengage from a bucket and attach a snowplow (or any other tool) without unnecessary downtown or switchover hassles. This translated to an increase in requests for Loader Backhoe snowplows.

Henke developed a snowplow named the LB30R10, which is an abbreviation for Loader Backhoe, 30" tall, Reversible and 10' long. Basically, this unit is a composite product, drawing on features from both our truck plow line and out industrial product line. An adjustable pitch moldboard features a safety trip (with automatic reset) for unexpected encounters with manholes, curbs, etc.

Reversing or angling is facilitated by two 3" x 10" DA hydraulic cylinders which drive a circle/A-frame arrangement and are protected by a hydraulic custom valve. A rigid link allows downpressure to be transferred to the cutting edge for scraping hardpacked snow and ice. The LB30R10 follows the contour of the road with a built-in swivel feature to adjust for uneven surfaces (e.g. crowned roads).
